Austin area gains jobs
Austin's unemployment rate went down from 4.5 percent a year ago to 3.8 percent in February 2007.
According to the Texas Workforce Commission, 808,000 people were employed in the Austin-Round Rock area in February, compared with 816,600 in February 2006.
About 32,000 people were unemployed in the area, compared with 36,000 people during the same period last year.
Texas had an annual job growth of 2.3 percent, and the Texas economy gained 231,200 jobs in a year. Unemployment for the state held steady at 4.5 percent, down from 5.1 percent a year ago. The Midland area had the lowest unemployment rate in the state at 3.2 percent.
