Austin incomes better than other Texas

cities, below national average

Austin Business Journal - August 30, 2006

Austinites, on average, bring in more money than those in Big D or H-Town but it's still less than the national standard, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Austin has the highest median household income of any large metropolitan area in Texas, according to new figures, but it ranks lower than the national average.
The Austin area's median household income of $43,731 tops San Antonio's $40,186, Houston's $36,894, or Dallas and Fort Worth's $36,403. It also ranks higher than the state average of $42,139, but lags behind the national average of $46,242.

The nation's highest large-city income can be found in the affluent Dallas suburb of Plano, where the median household income hit $71,560.
